Keramia Art Deco Terracotta Nude Wall Plaque

A polychrome female figure with turquoise ribbon

A striking Art Deco terracotta wall plaque by Keramia, modelled as a stylised semi-nude female figure in a fluid reclining pose. The figure is finished in a dark matte glaze with gilt-highlighted hair and is entwined by a sculptural turquoise ribbon, while one raised hand holds a small polychrome flower. The elongated pose, simplified modelling and strong contrast of black, turquoise and gilt are characteristic of Central European decorative ceramics of the interwar period. Impressed to the reverse with the Keramia factory mark, comprising a stylised tower above 'KERAMIA', together with 'FOREIGN', and retaining its original hanging aperture. An unusually large and visually assured example of Art Deco wall ceramics, with particularly strong decorative presence.

By family descent from the present owner's great-grandmother.
