4 Million or It's Curtains for Him

4 Million or It's Curtains for Him

John Shapter, 2002

A signed, original collage of cut-out lettering, a small photograph and yellow adhesive tape arranged upon crumpled paper. Its ransom-note typography and enigmatic central image combine dark humour with an instinctive, irreverent approach to composition. Created in Lincoln during an active period of Shapter's visual practice, within the city's independent artistic community. A practising dentist as well as an artist, Shapter subsequently explored experimental sound and ambient music under the name Headzic. Signed by the artist. Original frame and mount retained.

Gift from the artist to the present owner.

For an account of John Shapter's later experimental music and sound-art practice as Headzic, see Headzic: The Accidental Musician.
