French Renaissance Revival Cast Brass Easel Mirror
With mascaron crest and folding easel stand
A richly cast French easel mirror of the late nineteenth century, designed in the Renaissance Revival taste. The openwork brass frame is decorated throughout with scrolling foliage and pierced ornament, centred at the crest by a prominent bearded mascaron. A bevelled rectangular mirror plate is enclosed by a moulded inner border, while the reverse retains an elaborate folding metal easel stand. Compact in scale but strongly architectural in form, the mirror has the character of a late nineteenth-century dressing-table or cabinet object and retains an attractive aged brass surface.
Comparable late 19th century French cast-brass easel mirrors are known with pierced revival ornament, mascaron crests, bevelled plates and folding rear stands.
