Leather Rhinoceros
Dimitri Omersa for Liberty of London, England, circa 1960s
A wonderfully characterful leather rhinoceros by Dimitri Omersa, made in England for Liberty of London. Hand-stitched in shaped leather panels and retaining a rich, deeply developed patina. The rhinoceros became Omersa’s defining design and an enduring example of eccentric British interiors.
Property of a Lady, acquired in the 1960s.
Omersa's leather animals have been sold by Liberty since 1927, and the rhinoceros remains in production today. The present example is an original 1960s piece, with the depth of patina only decades of use can give.
