The Diary of a Drug Fiend
Aleister Crowley, first American edition, New York, 1923
Crowley's only published novel, a story of cocaine and heroin addiction and recovery set partly in an "Abbey of Thelema" modelled on his own community at Cefalù, Sicily. First published in London by Collins in 1922; this is the first American edition, New York: E. P. Dutton & Company, 1923, reset with some corrections. About 2,025 copies were printed, and part of the edition was later destroyed by water damage after a fire. Publisher's black cloth lettered in red. Fragments from the walls of the Abbey at Cefalù are also offered by 1AB.
Estate of Helen Livingston Broome (1926‑2022).
