Crocodile-Embossed Gladstone Bag

Early twentieth century

A Gladstone bag in deeply patinated crocodile-embossed leather, retaining its brass frame, ring-pull clasp, side catches and wrapped handle. The original cloth lining is intact, darkened and worn through use. The clasp closes and holds; the key is lacking, so the bag cannot be locked.

Acquired by the present owner at the Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen, Paris, in 2003.
