Léa Stein Renard Fox Brooch
Laminated cellulose acetate, Paris
Léa Stein's celebrated fox, Renard, in a ribbed cream laminate: the sweeping tail curled over the head, the slender legs and pierced eyes cut and layered in relief. Signed Lea Stein Paris. Stein and her husband, the chemist Fernand Steinberger, developed a method of laminating very thin sheets of cellulose acetate, each piece then cut and finished by hand. Brooch production began in Paris in 1969 and continues today; the fox is her best-known design.
